As part of the planning of Pan American Games held in the Greater Toronto Area in 2015, we undertook analysis of the urban network surrounding several venues. Advanced vehicular and pedestrian modelling analyses and scenario testing were undertaken using AIMSUN and VISSIM micro-simulation models to develop and assess suitable operational plans and countermeasures, the future games demands from Games Client Vehicles (GCV) and spectators. It also recommended traffic management measures such as HOV lanes, signal improvements, lane closures, restrictions and one-way systems that were implemented at each venue to ensure satisfactory traffic operations during the games.
