As part of the planning for the 2015 Pan American Games held in the Greater Toronto Area, we carried out an analysis of the urban network surrounding several venues. Advanced vehicular and pedestrian modelling, along with scenario testing, were conducted using AIMSUN and VISSIM micro-simulation tools to develop and evaluate operational plans and countermeasures for Games Client Vehicles (GCVs) and spectators. The study also recommended traffic management measures—including HOV lanes, signal improvements, lane closures, restrictions, and one-way systems—which were implemented at each venue to ensure efficient traffic operations during the Games.
