TIMCON teamed up with EDR of Boston, USA, to undertake an assessment involving modelling and economic evaluation of multiple proposed improvements for Kampala City, Uganda. The projects included operational interventions to decongest the city, such as junction signalization, roadway widening and resurfacing, construction of missing links, and traffic management measures. The assessment, conducted through demand forecasting and micro-simulation modelling, confirmed that these measures would reduce travel times and improve accessibility. The economic evaluation considered not only traditional benefits such as travel time and accident savings, but also environmental, reliability, and induced costs and benefits, demonstrating the overall viability of the proposed improvements.
