Kampala-Entebbe Highway Design Assessment
Micro-simulation modeling was adopted to confirm the recommended design and to verify its decongestion benefits. The modeling revealed design inadequacies that needed improvements including:
- Adjustments to merging and diverging lanes
- Provision of additional lanes at critical interchange areas
- Improved interchange configuration
Evaluation of design using Traffic Micro-simulation modelling involving assessment development of a model for the recommended design, assessing future traffic demands and undertaking traffic operations analysis to identify areas of the design that needed improvements.
Video clip showing animation of traffic operations on the highway was played in Ugandan Parliament for funding approval and provided legislators with visual representation of the design and a greater appreciation of the implications and the decongestion benefits of the designs.
