This project was undertaken under previous employment. It involved traffic modelling to support development of an automated reversible lane system for the southern access street to Calgary Stampede Park. A manual lane reversal scheme is usually implemented on the four lane street during entry and exit to provide greater capacity for the heavier flow. The manual system is implemented by use of bollards and signs along the street and at the intersection with an arterial road, but an automatic system is under consideration.
Micro-simulation modelling was applied to support the Study objectives by facilitating consideration of various complex issues that included consideration LRT operations on Main Street and the departure patterns of crowds at the end of the events. The analysis confirmed the viability of automated reversal system.
