TIMCON Director, Dr Timothy Oketch, P. Eng., led a Team of World Bank Experts to undertake a Road Safety Audit of the Lagos BRT Extension to Ikorodu in Lagos Nigeria. The BRT extension is located in the median of the 13.5 km road extending from Mile 12 terminus to Ikorodu Town. Footbridges are provided at the major stations to transfer passengers from the median to curb sides of the roadway. It has nine terminals and stops. The audit identified intense pedestrian and vehicle conflicts, inadequate crossing opportunities for pedestrians leading to a high number of pedestrian fatalities. It recommended improved pedestrian crossings and a host of other measures to enhance safety of pedestrian and BRT passengers in the corridor.
